The main one is the issue of Non-Verbal communication, which is vital in interpersonal communication. It is more than the explicit meaning of the word and more than the information about to be conveyed. With Non-Verbal communication, there are various forms of Non-Verbal communication: facial expressions, use of gestures, pitch/tone of voice, and others that are important to Communication. The Non-Verbal cues bring flavor to the concept of communication by bringing more information and having more meaning to what is about to be communicated.
Regarding communication, nonverbal communication helps people reinforce and modify what has been said in words. In a work setting, professionals need to understand that people may nod their heads in agreement to emphasize their agreement to the subject being discussed. For example, they may sit in a certain posture, and in the process, the others will also sit in the same posture. It is one of the ways that the relationship at the workplace is reinforced. It also helps the team build on their rapport which is a point where the team connects well. The professional might find it easy to define the relationship between the team and his people at the workplace. Building on this, people tend to be active, and as a result, the work environment becomes livelier and more productive.
In terms of having a better working space, the professional needs to understand the various facial expressions and other important gestures. Some of the facial expressions can indicate a person’s mood, and the tone also can be a major factor in determining how people feel. The signs used can be as a form of agreeing to the subject matter or rejecting politely. Also, Non-Verbal cues play a major role in controlling the kind of message they send to the leader as people cannot see what they do because they cannot see themselves. Understanding these Non-Verbal cues makes it easier for people to relate at the workplace.
