This article has three parts. The first part analyzes how juvenile delinquency has been criminalized, while the second part analyzes the laws that have been implemented to coin parental responsibility into a weapon that can be used to force parents to control children’s anti-social behavior. The third part of this article proposes legal interventions in the relationship between juvenile crime and parental supervision. Essentially, this article is very elaborate in its approach as it seeks to reconcile parental responsibility and juvenile delinquency using a reasoned approach. I chose this article to have a better understanding of parental responsibility and juvenile delinquency. The article provided this insight and more.

This study examines the effects and paths that tie children’s delinquency and criminal behavior to parenting style. The author used interactional theory to explore the phenomena mentioned above. The parenting styles assessed in the study include permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative. Interestingly, the author found out that children’s criminal and delinquent behavior affected parenting style more than parenting style influenced children’s delinquent and criminal behavior. Essentially, parenting style and children’s behavior influence each other as per the findings of the study. I chose this study because I wanted to know more about children’s criminal and delinquent behavior vis a vis parenting style, which is a topic that has not received the attention it deserves.
Moitra, T., & Mukherjee, I. (2010). Does Parenting Behaviour Impacts Delinquency? A Comparative Study of Delinquents and Non-Delinquents. International Journal of Criminal Justice Sciences, 5(2), 274.
The authors of this article set out to analyze the nature of the relationship between mothers’ and fathers’ parenting behavior and the development of delinquency among adolescent males in Kolkata, India. The study involved 200 participants, where half of the participants were delinquents while the remaining half were non-delinquents. Markedly, the participants were adolescents aged between 11 and 18. The findings of the study indicated that parenting style influenced delinquency. Markedly, the authoritative parenting style was the most effective against delinquency. Aspects that contribute to delinquency as per the study’s findings include neglectful authoritarian parenting style and age. I chose this journal so that I could better understand the dynamics that contribute to adolescent delinquency.
Spano, R., Vazsonyi, A. T., & Bolland, J. (2009). Does Parenting Mediate the Effects of Exposure to Violence on Violent Behavior? An Ecological–Transactional Model of Community Violence. Journal of adolescence, 32(5), 1321-1341.
This journal examines whether or not parenting influences the effect of exposure to violence on violent behavior (Spano, Vazsonyi, & Bolland, 2009). To conduct the study, the researchers recruited 1544 African American youth from poor backgrounds. The researchers found out that neither the developmental stage nor the structure of the family mitigated the effects of exposure to violence on violent behavior (Spano, Vazsonyi, & Bolland, 2009). Moreover, the researchers found out that exposure to violence had a more profound effect on female than male youth. I selected this article because it provides more insight into the prevalence of violence in African American communities, in addition to exploring the possible approaches to solve this challenge.
Statistics On Public Institutions for Delinquent Children.(n.d.). Washington
This report crunches the numbers that pertain to children’s delinquency. More specifically, there are public institutions that are dedicated to dealing with delinquent children in the United States. According to the report, there were 322 known public institutions for delinquent children in the United States as of the year of publication of the report. The report essentially paints children delinquency as a problem that the United States has to deal with as it outlines the cost the government has had to meet in expenditure in the studied institutions. I chose this report because it had the data I was after, which would help me understand the extent of children delinquency in the United States.
